Most of us cringe just hopping in and out of the shower during the bone-chilling Korean winter, but for some adventurous (if masochistic) surfers, winter marks the best time to smear some jelly on their board and jump into the sea.
To kick off the new year’s first Weekender issue, the Korea Herald published a roundup of the five most popular winter surfing spots in the country.
“Pohang is a good spot for surfing -- in winter especially, under the right conditions the waves can be world-class,” surfer Min Kyung-shik told the paper, adding that waves are bigger and stronger in Korea during the winter, due to the winds from the north.
