Snowboarder Shaun White Enters Plea Deal Over Drunken Incident
Olympic snowboarder Shaun White has settled a plea deal for public intoxication and vandalism charges stemming from his crazy night at a Nashville hotel.
The Nashville district Attorney’s spokeswoman, Susan Niland, revealed that the 26-year-old athlete agreed to have alcohol treatment and complete 24 hours of community service. White also compensated the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville for the damage he did to their establishment.
A Nashville judge signed off on the agreement yesterday between the prosecutors and Shaun’s attorney, which at first excluded alcohol treatment provision. But the prosecutors and the attorney went back to court on Thursday and included the alcohol treatment provision in the agreement.
Shaun was arrested on September 16 after the intoxicated snowboarder pulled a fire alarm at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, which caused hotel guests to evacuate around 2 A.M.
A hotel employee said the gold medal-winning athlete destroyed their hotel phone. White also kicked a man and then fell and hit his head and had to be hospitalized.
Shaun White apologized for his behavior on Facebook, writing, “I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests.”
He added, “I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I’m truly sorry for my poor behavior.”
Shaun has to return to court again on January 25, 2013 after completing his provision.
